“NO SEED OIL” Packaging Claim

The demand for products with NO SEED OILS has grown dramatically as consumers become more aware of the potential health concerns associated with highly processed seed oils. Definitions of what it means to have “No Seed Oils” are not the same everywhere. This is a full description of how we define it at YouBar for the ability to use this as a Verified Label Claim.

“NO SEED OILS” means the product has none of these oils on its FDA compliant ingredient list

  • Sunflower oil

  • Safflower oil

  • Soybean oil

  • Canola oil

  • Rapeseed oil (or highly processed derivatives, like EPG)

  • Corn oil

  • Cottonseed oil

  • Grapeseed oil

  • Rice bran oil

  • Peanut oil

  • Blended vegetable oils containing any of the above

Exemptions

  • Sunflower Lecithin IS allowed as long as its final product inclusion is under 1%, and the lecithin provides a non-nutritive functional purpose, such as stabilization or emulsification.

  • Certain ingredients -- like natural flavors, upstream processing aids and vitamin pre-mixes -- may contain minimal seed-oil carriers that are NOT required by the FDA to appear on the final product’s ingredient list. If the sub-ingredient meets the FDA’s criteria for not being required to be disclosed on the product’s ingredient list then it meets the YB standard for “NO SEED OILS.”
