Additional Micronutrient R&D
A standard Nutrition Facts panel only covers the nutrients the FDA requires on every label: calories, fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, total and added sugars, protein, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and potassium. Anything beyond that list takes additional development work.
This service covers the R&D needed to formulate for, verify, and declare any vitamin or mineral that is not automatically on the panel. Examples include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, the B vitamins (B6, B12, folate, niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, biotin, pantothenic acid), magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, iodine, and choline.
When you need it
If you add a vitamin or mineral to your bar, or make any claim about one on your packaging or marketing ("good source of magnesium," "with B12," "excellent source of vitamin C"), FDA regulations require that nutrient to appear on your Nutrition Facts panel. That declaration has to be supported by the formula and backed by data.
What's included
Our food science team will review your target nutrients and claims, source and evaluate the right ingredient forms, adjust the formula to hit your target levels while protecting taste and texture, account for nutrient loss through processing and shelf life, and add the declared nutrients to your Nutrition Facts panel with the correct % Daily Value.
Note: Lab testing to verify nutrient levels on the final formula is priced separately if label claims will be made.
